WHO THE HECK IS RON D. ROCK?
Ron D. Rock is the founder of Loudstakk and was the founder of Ugritone. Born in Finland and now based near Detroit, Ron is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and lifelong devotee of heavy music.
With a deep background in guitar, drums, and arrangement, Ron’s approach to music is rooted in hands-on experience. His work is shaped by years of writing, recording, and producing across multiple instruments, supported by an extensive personal collection of drums and cymbals. This practical foundation informs everything he creates—always with a focus on feel, usability, and musical intent.
Driven by equal parts creative obsession and entrepreneurial instinct, Ron founded Loudstakk to deliver high-quality MIDI grooves, drum samples, and audio plugins designed to serve real songwriting and production workflows.

What is your approach to Guitar Tones?
"Guitar tone is one of the hardest things to dial in— not because we lack the gear, but because you’re trying to satisfy three very different demands at the same time.
First, there’s the player—what feels good under the fingers, what responds the way they expect. Sometimes that preference is completely at odds with what the song actually needs. Then there’s the mix, which may demand clarity, midrange cut, or space that the player’s favorite tone doesn’t naturally offer.
These three forces—the player, the song, and the mix—don’t always agree. So for me, the approach is simple: don’t overcomplicate it. Nearly any piece of gear can sound good enough to press record—especially if the feel is right. And if someone chooses to press play and connect with it? That’s the whole point, isn’t it? At the core, this industry exists to make sounds someone wants to hear.
For me, it always starts with feel. If it responds the way I want, if it inspires something, that’s my green light. Then I might look down and realize—"Oh, that was a Marshall? Or a Mesa?” The gear is secondary. The feel is everything."
Which engineers or guitarists inspired you?
"Andy Sneap has always been one of those tone architects who never gets old for me. Every time I revisit his work, he’s managed to raise the bar again—whether it's how a modern guitar should sound or how classic bands can continue to feel razor-sharp and relevant. Sure, there are heavier tones out there—often buried in ultra-low tunings like Drop Z—but Andy's approach to tone in standard E often out-punches the so-called brutal stuff. Why? Because he understands the fundamentals that well. His precision and clarity never sacrifice aggression.
Colin Richardson is another master I deeply admire. Between him and Andy, they've produced a huge portion of the records I turn to for inspiration—especially when I’m traveling. Colin’s mixes have this high-octane energy that’s both clean and crushing. His guitar tones somehow always sound like the strings were just pulled out of a fresh pack—full of those shimmering, resonant frequencies that make everything feel alive.
And then there’s Mikko Karmila, the unsung hero of Finnvox Studios. His approach is all guts and instinct. On paper, his guitar tones might seem low on gain—but in context, they destroy. He knows exactly where to place guitars in the mix to make them hit like a sledgehammer, without crowding everything else. Just listen to his work with Children of Bodom: it’s all mids, minimal fizz, maximum impact. That “balls over buzz” philosophy isn’t easy to pull off, but Mikko nails it every time."
How did the idea for TRVE Rig come around?
"The concept behind TRVE Rig has been living rent-free in my head for years—so it’s a huge relief (and honestly, a thrill) to finally see it out in the world.
There’s already a ton of great amp sims out there—many of them extremely well-made. So at first, it almost felt like, “What’s the point of making another one?” But the more I used what was available, the more I noticed a pattern: so many of these plugins are bloated with features, crammed with endless menus, and loaded with options that ultimately slow you down and kill your creative flow. A lot of them just don’t feel like they were built by people who actually write songs.
Then there’s the tonal direction most sims take—ultra-modern, drop-tuned brutality. And while that’s cool and definitely has its place, if you’re someone like me who tends to live in tunings from Standard E to Drop C, you start to feel a bit left out. It’s all punch and polish, but not much personality.
So I wanted to do something different. I built TRVE Rig as a one-click time machine—a curated collection of tones that spans from 1970 to 2005, covering the full spectrum of heavy guitar tone history. Whether you’re channeling classic NWOBHM riffs, early '90s death metal crunch, or early 2000s hardcore grit, it’s all in there. No bloat. No filler. Just the tones I’ve wanted to hear and use for years—finally in one place."
Who should use TRVE Rig?
"TRVE Rig is built for anyone who wants to cut through the noise and just play. No endless tweaking, no deep-dive menu surfing—just click, play, and go.
It’s especially made for players who gravitate toward tones that might be considered a bit more “outdated” by today’s standards—but still have character, warmth, and bite. Instead of relying on heavily post-processed EQ curves, you can shape your sound more naturally—by choosing elements like the cabinet or speaker model, the way it was traditionally done.
Whether you're tight on time or just tired of bloated interfaces, TRVE Rig offers a streamlined, well-organized user experience. It’s for busy musicians, riff-writers, producers, and anyone who values feel over fiddling."
